Jewellery Valuation Services

Whether you need a valuation for insurance, estate planning, resale, or your own records, Cornerstone Jewellers works with an independent, professionally qualified jewellery valuer to provide accurate and comprehensive valuation reports.

Every valuation is carried out with care, confidentiality, and security in mind, ensuring your jewellery is professionally assessed and documented.

Why Have Your  Jewellery Valued?

A professional jewellery valuation provides an accurate assessment of your jewellery's current replacement value and creates a detailed record of its unique characteristics. Whether your jewellery is a family heirloom, an engagement ring, or a treasured everyday piece, having an up-to-date valuation offers peace of mind and can be invaluable when you need it most.

Insurance Protection

One of the most common reasons for obtaining a valuation is for insurance. If your jewellery is lost, stolen, or damaged, an accurate valuation helps ensure your insurer has the information needed to replace your piece with one of comparable quality and value. Without a current valuation, you may find that your jewellery is underinsured, particularly as the prices of gold, platinum, diamonds, and coloured gemstones change over time.

Accurate Identification

A valuation is much more than a dollar figure. It includes a detailed description of your jewellery, such as the precious metals used, gemstone types, diamond grades, measurements, and distinguishing features. This detailed documentation can be extremely helpful if your jewellery is ever lost or stolen, making it easier to identify and verify ownership.

Estate Planning & Family Records

Jewellery often holds both sentimental and financial value. Professional valuations provide an accurate record for estate planning, probate, inheritance, or dividing assets fairly among family members. They also create a lasting record of treasured heirlooms for future generations.

Keeping Your Valuation Up to Date

The value of jewellery is not fixed. Precious metal prices, gemstone values, and market conditions can all change over time. We recommend updating your jewellery valuations every 3–5 years, or sooner if there have been significant changes in the precious metals or gemstone market, to ensure your insurance cover remains accurate.

Our Valuation Process

To ensure your jewellery is presented at its best while maintaining its security, we follow a careful process from start to finish.

Initial Assessment

When you bring your jewellery to us, we first inspect each piece to assess its overall condition. If we notice any loose stones, worn claws, or damage that could affect the valuation or the safe handling of the piece, we'll discuss any recommended repairs with you before proceeding.

Professional Cleaning & Polishing

Once any approved repairs have been completed, your jewellery is professionally cleaned and polished. Presenting each piece in its best condition allows the valuer to accurately assess its craftsmanship, gemstones, and overall appearance.

Independent Valuation

Your jewellery is personally collected by our independent valuer and transported securely for assessment in a controlled environment. This allows each piece to be examined thoroughly using professional gemmological equipment without interruption.

Detailed Valuation Report

The valuation process typically takes around three weeks. Once completed, your jewellery and valuation documents are personally returned to Cornerstone Jewellers by the valuer.
